The story
Our clients had difficulties tracking their account notifications. Over 35% of clients were frustrated — they never saw or knew of any notification on their account dashboard.
Part of the reason was volume: one client can have over 200 accounts on their dashboard, in most cases governed by multiple advisors.
Understanding
We could not remove the Account Overview section — it was too important. So we looked at the right-hand rail, which usually updates clients on stocks, news, or promotions. Clients were already familiar with getting updates there.
We based our case studies on the client advisors, who governed 90% of all client accounts. They advised not only investment accounts but also mortgages and credit — and gave considerably good feedback on using the right column as the central location.
Design decision
Our design decision focused on notifying advisors with the right amount of information, leading them to the actions they needed to take. Even though the module contained many notifications, we broke each part down so every piece of information lived on its own island — pending applications, failed account services, secure messages, electronic signatures, and application status.
